Ingredients
  

For the sandwiches

  • 1 12-ounce package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1 pound thinly sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 pound sliced Swiss cheese

For the sauce

  • /2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds.
  • Arrange the Hawaiian sweet rolls in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Top each roll with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese.
  • Pour the sauce over the sandwiches.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Tips
For a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar. For a tangier sauce, add more Dijon mustard.
If you don't have poppy seeds, you can omit them.
You can also add other toppings to the sandwiches, such as pickles, lettuce, or tomato slices.
Funeral sandwiches can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven.
Variations
Turkey and Swiss: Use turkey instead of ham.
Roast Beef and Cheddar: Use roast beef instead of ham and cheddar cheese instead of Swiss cheese.
Chicken and Provolone: Use sliced chicken breast instead of ham and provolone cheese instead of Swiss cheese.
Vegetarian: Use vegetarian ham and cheese.
